Book Club Projects!
Today we viewed our book club projects. Each book club group worked hard to create the movie/book trailer. They used iPads and an app called iMovie for the trailer template and a green screen app when they wanted a creative background. Each scene in the trailer signifies an important moment in the book. Enjoy!
Homework:
- 30 minutes of reading

Stand 4 Change and ACES
On May 2nd, 2012, the first Stand4Change Day took place with over 2 MILLION students around the globe, taking a stand in their schools and communities. They were alerting those around them, that they would not stand for bullying behaviors. Since then, the number of students that have participated in Stand4Change Day each year has grown exponentially. This year, over 5 MILLION students will take part in this historic Stand4Change Day movement. These students represent every state in the United States, as well as 30 countries around the globe.
Today students of Room 15 pledged to stop bullying and help others if they are bullied. We had a great discussion about how words can be hurtful even if we are 'joking.' Students agreed to join the anti-bullying movement.

Students also participated in ACES (All Children Exercising Simultaneously) today at 3:15. ACES takes place as part of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month along with National Physical Education Week. It has been labeled as "the world's largest exercise class" by the media. Since 1989, millions of children from all over the world exercise together to promote proper health and fitness habits. With the obesity epidemic facing the youth of the world, children's fitness plays a major role in fighting heart disease. Project ACES hopes to address these issues with its big event in May. Another GREAT day!
Today students worked hard on their nonfiction writing. We are learning how to add VOICE to our writing. For example, students are varying the length of their sentences, choosing a more precise word, writing nonfiction with analogies and comparisons, and adding questions for the reader. Overall students are turning boring facts into a well crafted Non-Fiction report.
In readers' workshop, book clubs have finished. Students are working hard to tell the story of their book club book through a Movie Trailer. Each group will be done by Friday, and I'll post their projects here.
In science, students wrote an observation about their terrariums.

Terrariums
Students in Room 15 are learning about planting, seed growth, and creating suitable environments for organisms in their new unit called Environments. Today in Science, we learned about the pill bug (Roly-poly) by reading about them and observing them. That's right...students had 3 to 4 pill bugs and had a front row seat to watch and examine them.
Next the class decided that their terrariums were not suitable environments for the pill bugs without making an important change. Ask your child today how they changed their terrarium so that the pill bugs would survive...
***Thank you all who donated to our Movie Themed Spring Fair basket; it turned out awesome!!!! ***
