Our first unit will
explore historical information about the first Americans. We will
discover many interesting facts. Did you know that the Ojibwa tribe ate
nuts and berries that they collected from the trees of Michigan? The Ottawa
tribe lived on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, and the Northeast Woodland
tribe used rivers and lakes for food and transportation.
Included in
understanding people, where they live, and why they live there are the 5 themes
of geography. Students will gain understanding of the 5 themes: location,
place, movement, human environment interaction, and regions.
Next, we will study
details about the first explorers and settlers in North America. Most
explorers were from Spain or Italy, and the settlers were primarily from Eastern
Europe.
We will also study the
events that led to the Revolutionary War. We will learn that England
passed many Acts and Laws that made the colonists very angry. Additionally, we
will discover that there are many events that go into the build-up of a war,
and that it doesn't happen overnight.
