Creating an online writing portfolio

The fifth graders of room 15 have just completed a unit on opinion writing.  We wanted to show how our writing has evolved from our first attempt to our final.  Click on names below to see how we have incorporated our learning targets into our writing to make significant improvements. By using new features on google sites, we created these portfolios to show our writing over time.  At the very end of the site, each of us reflected on our opinion writing growth.

Pendulums in Action

In readers' and writers' workshop, we are beginning the study of nonfiction texts.  In a small group, students learned about different types of nonfiction text features, wrote about the purpose of each, and examined a variety of different Nonfiction texts.

Today students worked together in science to create pendulums.  They are studying how scientists will change one variable on an experiment at time.  The students agreed to change the length of the pendulum to see how that would affect the number of swings.  Tomorrow we will compile and analyze our results to create a conclusion based our data.

I sent a letter home with the students about Valentines day.  Click here to read the letter. On the 2nd page of the letter, students will find Room 15's class list.
