Creating an online writing portfolio

The fifth graders of room 15 have just completed a unit on opinion writing.  We wanted to show how our writing has evolved from our first attempt to our final.  Click on names below to see how we have incorporated our learning targets into our writing to make significant improvements. By using new features on google sites, we created these portfolios to show our writing over time.  At the very end of the site, each of us reflected on our opinion writing growth.

Hello Mr. Reed's Class,
Currently, we are on Mid Winter Break and I made a goal for myself to set aside time to read your writing portfolios.

All I can say is, "WOW! I am impressed!" I was able to see the changes of your writing skills comparing your first essay to your last, most recent piece. You offered great perspectives and opinions about important topics like fast food, sugary drink, school uniforms and cell phones. I really appreciated the learning targets connected to each piece- that allowed me to see a peek into your thinking and the learning process you experienced.

You may know that I was a fifth grade teacher myself, once upon a time. Being a writer in fifth grade takes patience, practice and a willingness to best forth your best work. Each of you have worked hard to strengthen and develop your writing skills. I am proud of your hard work!

Thank you to Mr. Reed for sharing your online portfolios with me. I truly enjoyed reading your work!
